Day 1: Budapest

Arrival at Budapest Airport. Transfer to the hotel in downtown Budapest.

We start with lunch in a local restaurant.

City tour of Budapest: the guests will be acquainted with the most famous sights of the city (e.g. Heroes Square – with statues of the historical Hungarian kings, City Park with Europe’s largest thermal spa, Andrássy Avenue, Opera House, St Steven’s Cathedral, Parliament, Chain Bridge, Castle District, Matthias Church, Fishermen’s Bastion), the most interesting stories of the locals, and general information about history, the city, and life in Hungary.

Dinner in a small local restaurant, next to the hotel.

Day 2: Budapest – Keszthely – Tihany – Balatonfüred

We take the highway towards Lake Balaton and within a good 2 hours driving we arrive to Keszthely, which is the cultural capital of Lake Balaton, located on the western shore of the lake. For sightseeing it is worth visiting the pedestrian street in the centre and the nearby Festetics Palace.

Then we drive along the northern shore of the lake. First we stop at Badacsony Hill, which is a special wine region of Hungary with volcanic soil. Possibility for freetime or lunch.

After lunch we drive along the shore to arrive to Tihany. The village is built on a peninsula, and the centre is the Benedictine Abbey. From there we can admire the spectacular view on the lake. We visit the abbey and the open-air village museum.

After a few minutes drive from Tihany, we arrive to Balatonfüred, where we have our 3* hotel accommodation at the lakeside. There is possibility to swim in the lake (in case of good weather) or the group can take a walk in the town, which has an atmosphere dating back to the 19th century.

Day 3: Balatonfüred – Herend – Pannonhalma – Győr

After breakfast we leave the Balaton area and drive towards north. Within an hour driving we reach the town of Herend, where we can visit the Porcelain Mini-manufactory. This is a small interactive museum with porcelain painting and making. Afterwards we drive to the Pannonhalma Abbey, the oldest active religious institution of Hungary that is over 1000 years old. After lunch we visit the Benedictine Monastery, a World Heritage site. Then we continue to the Baroque town, Győr (walking sightseeing tour – no entrance fee). Dinner and overnight in a hotel in Győr.

Day 4: Győr – Danube Bend – Budapest

The Danube Bend – an excursion into Hungary’s history – we take you to Esztergom (Center of the Catholic Church – interior visit) and to Visegrád, the former Royal Residence. After lunch we carry on to the Baroque Artists’ Village Szentendre (guided walk). Possibility to visit the Margaret Kovács Museum of ceramic figures. Afterwards we return to Budapest. Farewell dinner with folklore show in a local restaurant. Accommodation in a hotel in downtown Budapest.

Day 5: Budapest

Transfer from your hotel to catch your homebound flight.
